Penny Somerville
Penny's work is involved in an auto-ethnographic inquiry associated with places special to her .. Her wanderings lead to a remote windswept island in the Bristol Channel where her father was born, and to India where she has family connections with the East India Company occupation. She discovered her Indian mixed heritage, and while travelling and working in India she finds an acceptance especially amongst women and mothers and has enjoyed being included in their rituals and family life. Sacred spaces, tumultuous gods and goddesses and rituals are a current source of enquiry, and the work takes the form of prints, drawings and glass paintings.
