The focus of my practice is printmaking and primarily of etching upon steel. At the core of my practice is a desire to tie the plate making process with the idea behind the work.
The plate which I create is the result of both deliberate action and chance. I aim to influence but not control. I am drawn to print’s capacity to make visible something which is absent, for it is that which has been removed which produces the mark on the printed paper. In all aspects of printmaking there is a binding together of conceptual opposite and the opportunities this affords for me to see my work in a different way.
My work is concerned with an exploration of space in the widest sense of the word; transitory liminal space, heterotopic space of a ‘world within a world’, and the virtual infinite space of the mind within the finite space of the body.
