Amy Butlin - Detail Summer19
Detail Summer19 1/3

My practice is concerned with an ongoing, personal search for self, which centres on an exploration of the conflicting conditions and processes that give rise to it. Within this my work explores themes that include childhood and motherhood, memory and the unconscious, absence and presence.

I have been developing a discipline of making and documenting sustained, automatic drawings. They are an outpouring, a feedback loop, a space in which to play and welcome uncertainty. They evolve until they are abandoned or erased and can expand into different media including photography, film, textiles, installation and performance.
